The Donahue Academy Shamrocks 7-man football team has come a long way since first taking the field in 2009. Now, they will play for the Florida Christian Associaiton of Private and Parochial Schools (FCAPPS) state championship Saturday night against a tough Cornerstone Christian team from Gainesville.

 Ave Maria University has named the land immediately around its distrinctive oratory the Donahue Plaza, honoring Jack and Rhodora Donahue for their contributions to the AMU community and to the Church. The Immokalee Fire Control District is requesting proposals from architects to design a permanent fire/rescue station in Ave Maria that would replace the current temporary facility. Fire Chief Paul Anderson said he hopes the station can be completed by the end of 2014.

Michaela Cheffers, a senior at Donahue Academy, will be exhibiting 30 oils, etchings and drawings Sunday afternoon, Dec. 8, from 1-7 p.m. on the 2nd-floor balcony of the AMU student union. Miss Cheffers has been working with local artist Cornelius Sullivan.
 Ave Maria's annual Celebration of Lights drew a festive crowd from across southwest Florida Friday night for fun, food, games and the event's largest parade ever.

 The Donahue Academy Shamrocks earned their first trip to the state 7-man football championships, beating Solid Rock Christian Academy 73-44 Thursday night at North Park. The championship game is Saturday, Dec. 14, in Lakeland, FL.

Ave Maria University President Jim Towey hailed as "great news" the decision announced today that the U.S. Supreme Court will hear cases involving the Obamacare mandate that employer-provided insurance must cover free birth control. AMU and dozens of other for-profit and non-profit organizations have challenged the mandate in court. "I am confident that our cause has been a just one – and I predict a near-unanimous decision in our favor," Mr. Towey said in a statement. Ave Maria Law School President Eugene Milhizer has announced that he'll be stepping down as president and dean of the school effective next July 1. Mr. Milhizer, who lives in Ave Maria, will stay on as a member of the law school faculty, the school said in a statement.

In a meeting devoted largely to procedural and housekeeping matters, the Ave Maria Stewardship Community District Tuesday set a date of Feb. 4 for a hearing on a number of rules changes and approved budgets for the district and irrigation costs. The district supervisors also voted to add stop signs on Avila Ave. making the intersection of Avila and Taylor a four-way stop.

The Donahue Academy Shamrocks finished the 7-man football regular season a perfect 10--0, earning a bye in the state playoffs. The Shamrocks will host a quarterfinal playoff game Nov. 22 at North Park.
