A bear on the ground and balloons in the air -- including, ironically, one depicting a bear -- made for an eventful morning Saturday in Ave Maria. Many of the balloons from the Balloons Over Paradise event in Immokalee landed in Ave Maria. On the ground, wildlife officials tranquilized and euthanized a bear that had been stalking the Bellera neighborhood.

UPDATE: Collier County Commissioners agreed Tuesday to move ahead with an application to have a veterans nursing home in Ave Maria. Ave Maria Development has offered to donate 20 acres of land for the project. The VA will pick one location out of several possibilities in Florida.
