The Ave Maria Stewardship Community District Board dealt mainly with housekeeping and procedural matters at its meeting Tuesday morning.
In the only action that will directly affect residents soon, the board approved the addition of stop signs on Avila Ave. at Taylor Dr., making the intersection a four-way stop. Traffic is increasing on Avila, in part due to the construction of the new Maple Ridge development, and the Collier County Sheriff's Office agreed with a suggestion that the stop sign would make the intersection safer for pedestrians, particularly children.
The board also discussed a number of proposed changes to its rules and procedures that were recommended by the district's new attorney, Jonathan Johnson of Hopping Green & Sams. Most of the changes, which deal with things such as bid procedures from contractors and meeting agendas, are intended to bring the district's rules into line with current Florida legislation. A date of Feb. 4 was set for a public hearing on the changes, and they will be published in advance to allow public comment.
The board also approved 2014 budgets for the district and for irrigation.
