Ave Maria University has announced the hiring of Maureen Joyce as the school's new vice president for finance and administration. Mrs. Joyce, who most recently has been comptroller at Simmons College in Boston, will be AMU's third finance chief since Paul Roney resigned at the end of 2011.

Ave Maria University has added undergraduate majors in Education and Accounting, both of which will be offered beginning with the fall semester, the university said in a news release. AMU is launching a nationwide search for a chair of its Education program.

Ave Maria is "off to the best sales year since the first year we opened," Barron Collier President Blake Gable told a gathering of residents Thursday evening during a wide-ranging discussion in which he also said that the company is looking seriously at proposals for an assisted living center and an apartment development among other future projects.

Blake Gable, president of Barron Collier Cos. who oversees Ave Maria Development, will provide an update on current and future developments in the town at a special two-hour session Thursday, Feb. 28, beginning at 5 p.m. in The Bean of Ave Maria. The event will include a Q&A period, and is open to everyone.
The Arthrex Manufacturing East facility on Oil Well Rd. in Ave Maria is on schedule to begin preliminary operations in April and the company plans to break ground on a second building in the fall, a company spokesman said.
