New AMU CEO Assumes Role 3 1/2 Months Ahead of Schedule

The board of trustees of Ave Maria University has made Jim Towey's appointment as CEO of the school effective this week, rather than waiting until the scheduled date of July 1, AMU founder Tom Monaghan announced Tuesday night at a dinner attended by university supporters. "I wanted to give him a free rein right away," Mr. Monaghan said.
Gabe Wallace, whose saxaphone playing has entertained Ave Maria residents at numerous functions, has won first place in the instrumental category of the Southwest Florida Young Artist Awards, presented Sunday night at the Broadway Palm Theatre in Fort Myers.
A variety of musical performances will be presented in Ave Maria during the next few weeks. There will be concerts by choirs, a piano soloist, a violin-cello duo, the Ave Maria Hometown Band and Orchestra and Opera Naples performing Verdi's Requiem.
