Arthrex To Build Manufacturing Facility in Ave Maria

The medical device manufacturer Arthrex has announced that it plans to build a large manufacturing facility that will employ at least 150 people at a site in Ave Maria off Oil Well Rd. Construction is hoped to start within a year, the company said in a statement.

 A controlled burn by the Florida Department of Forestry Wednesday morning east of the Ave Maria town center created a great deal of smoke but was not a cause for concern.
Cardinal Levada To Preside at AMU Graduation Mass

Cardinal William Levada, Prefect for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican, will be the principal celbrant at the Baccalaureate Mass before Ave Maria University's commencement exercises May 7. The commencement speaker later in the day will be Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus.

AMU's Justin James Named Sun Conference Player of the Week

Hard-throwing right-hander Justin James has been named the Player of the Week in the Sun Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for his 19-strikeout performance Saturday against Webber International. He's the first Ave Maria University baseball player to receive a Sun Conference Player of the Week honor.

Swampfest Rocks Ave Maria Town Center

 The fourth annual Swampfest battle of the bands drew students and town residents ranging in age from babes in arms to adults to the Ave Maria town center Saturday night. Above, two younger residents manage to sleep through the music that blared from the stage across from the Queen Mary Pub.
