Hometown Band Concert Highlights Arts Activities in Town Center

Residents and visitors to the Ave Maria town center were treated to more than two hours of band and orchestral music Saturday afternoon from the Ave Maria Hometown Band and several guest soloists. Above, Francesca Rossi, 15, from Hollywood, FL, performs on violin with Stephen Seto on piano.

Ave Maria Celebrates Unveiling of Annunciation Sculpture

An enthusiastic crowd thronged the Ave Maria town center Friday for the official unveling and dedication of the large marble bas-relief depicting The Annunciation on the oratory in the center of town. A mass, Eucharistic procession and dedication ceremony also celebrated the third anniversary of the formation of the quasi-parish community in Ave Maria. Above the sculpture is revealed.

Jim Coletta Announces Run for Re-Election as County Commissioner

 Jim Coletta, who has represented the Collier County Commission district that includes Ave Maria since 2000, has announced he will seek re-election in 2012. Mr. Coletta, 68, lives with his family in Golden Gate Estates. The primary next year is Aug. 28, 2012 and the general election is Nov. 6, 2012.
Conference at AMU Welcomes All with Interest in Gregorian Chant

Ave Maria University will be host again this year for Musica Sacra Florida's annual conference on Gregorian Chant, April 1-2. Sessions will be offered for scholars and those experienced with chant as well as beginners and anyone with an interest in this form of sacred music.

Music, live demonstrations by artists, a student film and, of course, the dedication of The Annunciation sculpture are on tap in the town of Ave Maria for three days, March 25-27. Above, sculptor Márton Váró putting the finishing touches on the marble sculpture of The Annuncation on the oratory.
