Writer and philosopher Michael Novak was honored in words, and with song at events at Ave Maria University marking his recent 80th birthday. Author George Weigel was among those paying tribute to Mr. Novak's many contributions in a number of areas.

Fire Closes AMU Dorm Temporarily

A fire in a common room at the Mother Teresa residence hall on the Ave Maria University campus forced evacuation of hundreds of women residents Monday. No one was injured and a spokesperson for the university said that damage was limited to the common room where an overheated laptop ignited a couch, causing the fire.

A dozen Ave Maria kids got a visit from the Immokalee fire department Thursday. Firemen gave them advice on preventing fires and what to do in a fire emergency, as well as showing them the equipment on the truck.
