For many of the 50 Ave Maria residents who came to the Oasis Club in Del Webb Thursday, it was their first chance to meet their "new neighbors" – executives at Arthrex, which opened its new manufacturing facility at the end of June.
The plant now employs 500 people in two ten-hour shifts, Vice President of Manufacturing Andy Owen said, and has the capacity to grow to 1,400 people per shift. He described much of the workings of the plant, and said that groups of residents can request a tour on their website. Arthrex also is working on a closer relationship with Ave Maria University, Mr. Owen said, including working with AMU Academic Affairs VP Michael Dauphinais on a mentoring program.
Human Resources Manager Mike Boose discussed the types of jobs at Arthrex, and said that the company treats employees so well that it has an attrition rate of less than two percent. Left -- some Ave Maria residents even dressed up for the occasion.
