The writings of Michael Novak have influenced some of the most prominent political and religious leaders of the late 20th century. A conference at Ave Maria University Friday, Sept. 20, will look at Mr. Novak's "enduring legacy" in honor of his 80th birthday this month.
"We were trying to assess in a simple way his lasting contribution," said AMU philosophy Professor Michael Pakaluk, one of the organizers of the half-day symposium. "We want to recognize his 80th year and his achievements."
Author George Weigel will deliver the keynote address at the conference, which also features lectures by AMU Professor David Dalin as well as three of Mr. Novak's former students, Samuel Gregg, Brian Anderson and Derek Cross. "We hope as well that this may introduce many young people to Michael's work," Dr. Pakaluk said.
The conference gets under way at 12:30 p.m. Friday and the final address, by Mr. Weigel, is at 5 p.m.
Mr. Novak has just published a new book, Writing from Left to Right, on his political journey from left-wing radical to becoming a leading conservative voice in the world.
The conference schedule is below, and in PDF format here.
