Around the Neighborhoods...
By June McCann
Rising Broadway star Omar Lopez-Cepero, son of proud Del Webb residents Ana and Tano Lopez-Cepero, is in the cast of SAINT-EX, a musical that had its world premiere Aug. 25 and runs through Sept. 10 at the Weston Playhouse in Weston, VT. A musical about the life of author-aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupery, the play explores Saint-Eupery's family relationships and the conflict between his career as an aviator and his success as the author of the children's classic book, "The Little Prince." Among Omar Lopez-Cepero's most recent Broadway accomplishments was his performance in the Broadway hit, AMERICAN IDIOT.
At Del Webb...
Proud grandparents...Bobby and Rosie Oshinsky report with delight that their granddaughter, Krystal Blanken (flanked by her grandparents in picture at left), is finally living her dream of teaching high school. Krystal graduated from Eastern Michigan University in December, 2009, but found full-time teaching positions hard to come by in the difficult Michigan economy. At her grandfather's suggestion, she attended a teachers' job fair in Collier County and was hired at Lely High School, where she teaches English, Literature and Drama.
Celebrating the 4th...A Potluck Barbecue was enjoyed by 44 Del Webb residents in the Tidewater Club to celebrate our nation's birthday. Great food, sparklers and a fun evening brought forth lots of red, white and blue adornments on everyone. The evening was topped off with delicious and traditional all-American apple pie and ice cream provided by Del Webb's Lifestyle Director, Tina Raymond. Pictured here enjoying the evening are Tano and Ana Lopez-Cepero (left) and the foursome of Ric Moore, Craig and Linda Helfer and Gwen Moore. (below right)
Everyone at Del Webb and beyond is still talking about Gwen's and neighbor Linda Helfer's amazing feat of getting back to back holes-in-one on July 21 at Heritage Bay Golf Club. Golf Digest rates the accomplishment as a "17 million to one" occurrence. Brava, ladies!
Though somewhat reduced in numbers with "snowbirds" leaving for the summer, residents still have opportunities for sport, food and entertainment at events planned for this long, hot summer, including happy hours, poolside picnics, Margarita Mondays, a chilli cook-off, movie nights (and matinees), bocceball and pickleball.

Grandbabies... Peggy and Scott Stinnet became grandparents of two babies born only five days apart in two different states but managed to be there for both births! The third child of Scott, Jr., and his wife Mary (Katie) Stinnet, Zoe Eloise Stinnet (7 lbs., 21") (left) was born on July 30th in Royal Oak, MI. It was a home birth and grandma was there for the happy occasion. Five days later the second child of Shannon (Stinnet) and AJ (Anton) Kochevar, Anton James Kochevar (6 lbs. 4oz., 19") (right) was born on August 4th in Tucson, AZ. Grandma Peggy said: "Two grandbabies in five days is a wild ride but we feel so blessed-God is good!" Anton gets to be held by his grandparents in this picture and Eloise is a shining star on her own in the other pix!
Anne and Jim Longon proudly announce the birth of Daniel Francisco Marto Schreck on May 13. Daniel weighed in at 8 lbs. 10 oz. May 13th is the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima and Daniel's middle name of Francisco Marto is in honor of one of the three children of Fatima who witnessed the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Family Reunion... Dee and Ray Justus travelled to Beach Haven, on the New Jersey shore, for a family reunion. All 19 of Dee's f
amily attended, including 9 grandchildren ages 4 to 20, 4 children and their spouses. "Lots of sand and great surf," said Dee.
Another Reunion...While vacationing in their home state of Michigan, Bobby and Rosie Oshinsky visited friends Pat and Ken Kleinrichert in Traverse City. (left) They visited a Polish Festival, a winery and took a sunset cruise with Ken, Jr., on Grand Traverse Bay. The happy sailors are from left: Ken, Pat, Bobby and Rosie.
A Golden Anniversary... A surprise 50th Wedding Anniversary party for Patti DeFelice was given by husband Jo
hn DeFelice and their children at the York Country Club in York, Pa. on April 7, 2011, with about 125 family members and friends attending. The theme of the party was to recreate the wedding day, with traditional Italian food; a wedding cake was also recreated based on a wedding album picture! Patti and John renewed their vows at a ceremony presided over by Father Houser, the Pastor of St. Patrick's Church in York.
Double the Joy! Suzanne and John Calce were the lucky hosts of two weddings in the past seven months! Amy Lynn Calce married Bryan Christian Cornell on June 25 at Annunciation Church in Williamsport, Pa. The reception was held at the Calce's home. Last November 6, Christina Maria Calce married Robert Christopher Harmala in Washington, D.C., at Saint Mary Mother of God Church. Both Christina and Robert are attorneys in our nation's capital.
And DelWebb parents Ame and Carlos Figueroa are still glowing over the wedding of daughter Cassandra to Dustin Dreifuerst on July 23 at the Ave Maria Oratory. (right) (For more, click here for Ave Herald "Passages" story.)
News from Nancy Freeman... In July, a farewell luncheon was given for Kristina O'Hern who had enlisted folks from Ave Maria to teach English to Hispanic women in Immokalee in a program called School on Wheels. The volunteers involved go directly to the client's homes because the women have no transportation to attend regular sessions to learn English. Kristina is moving on from her job as a Catholic Volunteer of America working with Catholic Charities in Immokalee to take on a new position with the Diocese of Orlando working with migrants in Apopka with the Sisters of Notre Dame. Pictured at the luncheon at The Bean are, from left, Kristina O'Hern, Theresa Milhiser, Cookie Olander, Joanne Hallenbeck and Nancy Freeman.
Nancy also reports that her seven-year-old granddaughter proudly chose her own verse to put on a brick for the Oratory at Ave Maria which Grandma had ordered for her three granddaughters. Nancy says that children love to find their own brick every time they visit-and that this is such a good idea for aiding Ave Maria University and making grandchildren very proud and happy at the same time!
