Golf Cart Registration Soon Will Be Required In Ave Maria

Golf carts in Ave Maria soon will need to display registration stickers if they are driven on the town's roads or cart paths.
Tom Sansbury of the Barron Collier Cos. told the meeting of the Ave Maria Stewardship Community District board Tuesday that registration will be required within a few weeks to ensure that the carts are properly insured, and so that they can be identified easily. Blue 5x5-inch registration stickers (right) will be available soon at the Ave Maria Master Association offices upon presentation of proof of insurance and payment of a $2 fee to cover the cost of the stickers.
Collier County Sheriff deputies will enforce the registration requirement, Mr. Sansbury said. The Ave Herald will provide full information on the registration program once all details are final.
In another update at the meeting, Mr. Sansbury said that the Immokalee Fire Control District remains committed to operating its facility in Ave Maria and also has arranged through an interlocal agreement for back-up coverage from the Big Corkscrew fire station about 7-10 minutes away. That, plus availability of additional response from Immokalee fire crews, has resulted in an improvement of the fire rating for insurance purposes, which could have an effect of lowering premiums on many homeowners' policies.
Board members also approved the proposed district budget for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1. The budget's expenditures of $1,632,955, of which $1,445,389 is for maintenance that includes roads, sewers, landscaping and mosquito control, is essentially unchanged from the two previous years. Residents' annual assessments also remain flat at $499 for a condo, townhome or carriage house and $959 for a detached single-family home.
District manager Todd Woddraska said the board may meet in September to consider refinancing of bonds that are the responsibility of the developers.
