 Groundbreaking for the long-awaited Oasis Club will be at noon Saturday, March 24, followed by refreshments and a live 50s band until 3 p.m.

 Crews have been working for more than a month to prepare the site for the medical device maker's plant on Oil Well Rd. Laura Mastandrea has been named the the Most Valuable Player on the Palmetto Ridge High School soccer team and also earned designation to the the Collier County All Conference Team. Laura, a sophomore, and started all 21 games for the Palmetto Ridge Bears. She lives with her parents, Michael and Jean Mastandrea, in Del Webb.
Ave Maria is one of a handful of special districts in the state of Florida that would be able to incorporate as a city if a bill passed by the Florida House of Representatives becomes law. Barron Collier vice president Tom Sansbury said, however, that the company has no plans to seek incorporation for Ave Maria and had nothing to do with the legislation.

 Members of the AMU women's basketball team spent time with kids at schools and hospitals in Sioux City, Iowa, this week, in advance of their appearance in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national champsionship tournament.  The Ave Maria University women's basketball team won the NAIA Sun Conference tournament championship with a 63-52 win over St. Thomas University Saturday at Miami Gardens. The Lady Gyrenes have earned a berth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national tournament beginning in March.

 A team from Donahue Academy made it to the final three in the Collier County Scholar Bowl competition Saturday, and wound up finishing third behind Naples High School in 2nd place and winner Community School of Naples.
