Beyond the new buildings and manicured landscaping in the town of Ave Maria lies a wild world that most residents and visitors to Florida seldom see. Now, a glimpse of this world is available through Orange Jeep Tours, which takes people on 90-minute open-air excursions into the Florida backcountry.
Scenes from a recent tour are pictured below, and more about the tours is in a recent column in the Collier Citizen by Ave Herald Editor Patricia Sette: The Ave Herald Reports - Finding Out What is in Our Own Backyard

Right, one of the two orange jeeps, leaving from the Ave Maria town center at the start of a tour.

Left, some of the dozens of baby alligators seen on the tour. Many full-grown specimens were also spotted.

Right, deer are not an uncommon sight.

Left, red-shouldred hawks could be seen tending this nest.

Right, numerous aquatic birds were seen, including this flock of ibises.

The local terrain includes both agricultural land as well as wilderness. In the picture at left, three different types of land can be seen. The oratory, several miles away, is in a residential development. The next stage is agricultural, and finally Florida grasslands.
Orange jeep tours leave every day from the Ave Maria town center. Details on schedule and pricing are on their website: www.orangejeeptours.com.
