Condo Hotel Planned for Ave Maria Town Center

villamariarenderingPlans were unveiled Tuesday for the first hotel in the town of Ave Maria, an 84-suite condominium hotel called VillaMaria Resort. The property is being developed jointly by Barron Collier and Sunstream Hotels, which operates seven other hotel properties in southwest Florida, including the Bellasera and the Park Shore Hotel in Naples.

Ave Maria currently has no overnight accommodation available to the general public, although Ave Maria Unversity rents rooms in a converted dormitory to people visiting the campus or attending events sponsored by the school. That building would revert to a dormitory once university enrollment required it for student housing.

VillaMaria would also have a ballroom that could accommodate a banquet for 240 people or a meeting of 296, as well as a lounge/bar open to the public. No restaurant is planned, according to the developers.

Financing for condominium hotels comes from the sale of units to individuals who can either occupy their suites or make them available to the hotel management company for rental. VillaMaria is offering studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units to "founding members" at prices ranging from $159,000 to $399,000.

villamariasiteA timeline on the project's website calls for construction to begin in November, 2012, with the facility opening in January, 2014, assuming the support of enough "founding members."

The hotel would be located on Pope John Paul II Blvd. across from Publix.

More information, including floorplans for units as well as public areas of the hotel, are on the VillaMaria website here.
