Tom Monaghan Hones Gyrene Burger Operations

 Ave Maria University Founder Tom Monaghan is encouraged by the start of his new hamburger delivery business Gyrene Burger, but says there is still much to do to bring the concept to the rapid growth stage he envisions. He shared his thoughts with The Ave Herald on the start-up, and on the year that has passed since AMU hired its new CEO, Jim Towey.

AMU President Towey Not Satisfied With Revised Contraceptive Mandate

AMU President Jim Towey says the school's board will discuss legal options Monday following a revision to the federal government's mandate on provision of free contraceptive services. "We subsidize these health plans, so the question is whether university resources are underwriting this," Mr. Towey told the Washington Post. "I still don't think President Obama gets it," he added. Rally in Naples Sunday Will Protest Contraceptive Mandate

A rally is planned for Sunday in Naples to protest the recent directive from the federal department of Health and Human Services that organizatioins such as Catholic colleges and hospitals must provide health insurance that covers free contraceptives.
Work Under Way at Site of Arthrex Facility

 Work has begun to clear land and put in the infrastructure for Arthrex's manufacturing plant at Ave Maria. Arthrex Vice President Scott Price says the company hopes that work on the structure can begin in three or four months. (photo is a rendering of one possible design for the Arthrex building)
