Panel Discussion at AMU to Examine Contraceptive Mandate

In the wake of Ave Maria University President Jim Towey's announcement that AMU is suing to block the federal government's contraceptive mandate, a panel of scholars will discuss the issue in an event open to the public Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m. on the AMU campus. Titled "Bad Policy: The Legal, Economic, and Ethical Implications of the HHS Mandate," the panel will include author and theologian Michael Novak and AMU professors Seana Sugrue and Joseph Burke.

Ave Maria University Sues Over Contraceptive Mandate

Ave Maria University announced Tuesday that it is suing for relief from the U.S. government's mandate that all insurance plans cover contraceptive services at no cost. The suit is being filed on behalf of AMU by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which has previously filed suits contesting the mandate on behalf of three other religious organizations.
