Erika Donalds of Naples was talking to a friend of hers the other day, both of them saying how upset they were about the mandate by the federal department of Health and Human Services that many religious organizations would be forced to provide health insurance coverage for employees that included free contraceptives.
"I said I thought we should do something about it," she explained, "and now it's taken on a life of its own.
Sending out emails, she spread the word of a rally Sunday, Feb. 12, in Naples to protest the mandate. The rally is from 1-3 p.m. at the corner of Pine Ridge Rd. and US 41 -- a popular spot for protesting.
Ms. Donalds said she has invited Ave Maria University President Jim Towey, who said earlier this week that the university would fight and "not comply" with the directive, to address the rally and is hoping he will agree to do so. The Ave Herald story on Mr. Towey's statement is here.
