Grand opening of Del Webb's Oasis Club! A gala New Year's party inaugurated the opening of the long-awaited amenity center at Del Webb—the Oasis Club. With a state of the art fitness center, meeting rooms, a library, a coffee room and an activities room, the new center was busy, busy, busy during the month of January. At the New Year's party, Patti and John DeFelice put on their best finery and joined friends and neighbors for an evening of good food, music and dancing.

More Del Webb fun...During the "Taste of Italy" dinner on January 19, these four party-goers (below left) sampled an array of homemade pastas, meatballs, salads and desserts: From left, Norb Arnoldi, John and Suzanne Calce and Marlys Arnoldi. adw7-christmasA Christmas Moment... Drs. Patricia and Neil Higgins travelled to Corvallis, OR, to spend Christmas with their family. Grandchildren Evelyn and Patrick, ages 2 ½ and 5 made it a very special visit to remember. And remembered, too, is this photo of Evelyn in a Christmas pageant in Church. The Higgins share this picture and their sentiments: "To see a shepherd sucking her thumb guiding a sheep by its ear will be a memory forever!"

A Proud Mom...Del Webb resident Jinny Oliver, who admits to being "a really obnoxiously proud mother" has reason to be so! Her son, Rev. Robert W. Oliver, has just been appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to be Promoter of Justice for The Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith. Father Bob's late father was a Supreme Court Justice for the State of New York and his paternal grandfather was the Chief Judge of the United States Customs Court. Father Bob is a Cannon Law expert and since 2010 has been assistant for canonical affairs to the Diocese of Boston's Vicar General, upholding the position of zero tolerance in matters of the abuse of children by the clergy. As stated in an article in the National Catholic Register, "The Promoter of Justice is often referred to as the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith's 'chief prosecutor' and is charged with investigating canon-law offenses that are regarded as being the most serious, including crimes against the sanctity of the Eucharist and violations of the seal of Confession." May God bless Father Bob and his very proud Mom!

adw8-lifeRespect Life Group at Cambier Park...On January 21 Joanne Hallenbeck, Barbara Kalar and Nancy Freeman , members of the Ave Maria Respect Life Committee, attended the Martin Luther King celebration at Cambier Park in downtown Naples. Immediately after the parade hundreds of people gathered for a celebration of Dr. King's life with diverse musical entertainment, ethnic foods and games for children. Nancy Freeman reports that the Ave Maria group handed out pro-life literature and witnessed to many people about the sanctity of life. "Next year," Nancy said, "we will ask to be placed next to the Planned Parenthood table."
