Support Voiced for Potential Wal Mart in Immokalee

 Residents attending a public meeting in Immokalee recently voiced overwhelming support for the possibility of a big box retailer such as Wal Mart coming to the area. An advisory committee to the Collier County Redevelopment Agency (CRA) will decide in February whether to recommend the proposal. Click for story from CRA website
Merger of Shamrock, 1st National Banks Gets Green Light

The planned merger of Shamrock Bank, which operates the bank branch in Ave Maria, with First National Bank has been cleared by the Comptroller of Currency and is expected to close in Febraury. Donahue Academy Granted Injunctive Relief from Obamacare Contraceptive Mandate

A federal district court judge in Michigan has granted injunctive relief from the Obamacare contraceptive mandate to several non-profit organizations related to Tom Monaghan's philanthropic efforts, including the Rhodora J. Donahue Academy in Ave Maria, FL. Judge Stephen J. Murphy said he believed the plaintiffs had a strong likelihood of succeeding on the merits of the case. AMU Conference Will Explore Role of Women in Politics

Women in politics -- past, present and future -- will be examined at the 4th annual Genuine Feminine conference at Ave Maria University Jan. 16-18. The theme of the conference, which is open to all, is, "Woman - a Political Animal?" and will feature a closing speech by Dr. Pia de Solenni (right), a noted commenter on issues relating to women, politics and Catholicism.
