"The Birds" -- What to Watch For

 Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, struck some as a somewhat unusual choice to kick off Ave Maria's Film Series. AMU professor Blanford Parker, who will discuss the film following its showing at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, previews the themes he'll talk about.

Putting a tumultuous few years in Michigan behind it, the Ave Maria School of Law is rebuilding in southwest Florida. Acting Dean Eugene Milhizer says the school's incoming first-year class is larger, with better credentials than previous years.  Four classic works of Alfred Hitchcock will be shown and discussed during the next few months. The program, which features a screening followed by a lecture and discussion at the Queen Mary Pub led by an AMU faculty member, begins Thursday, Oct. 22, with The Birds.

Ave Maria University President Nick Healy discusses Ave Maria University and what sets it apart from other Catholic colleges in a 15-minute video that is part of the Naples Daily News series One on One with Jeff Lytle. At Ave Maria, Mr. Healy says, "the Catholic moral life can be lived joyfully." The interview is online here and can also be seen locally Sunday at noon on Comcast channel 14.
