Mounting of Annunciation Sculpture To Begin Soon

The 15 carved marble blocks that will depict The Annunciation on the front of the Ave Maria Oratory will begin to be mounted in place within a few days. Above, work crews applying waterproofing to the oratory façade.

Film Society: "O Brother Where Art Thou"

obrotherThe AMU Film Society's final showing of the fall term is the 2000 Coen Brothers movie O Brother, Where Art Thou, a story with a Homeric theme set in the Deep South during the Great Depression. The screening is at 6:30 p.m. in the lecture hall of the academic building, with a lecture and discussion afterward at The Bean led by economics professor Dr. Joseph Burke. Town Forum Scheduled to Discuss Jackson Lab Topics

Some Ave Maria residents are sponsoring a forum the evening of Dec. 14 to discuss several aspects of the controversial project including matters relating to ethics, town development and specifics of genetics science. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at The Bean of Ave Maria.

UPDATE: Gov.-Elect Scott Now Key to Future of Jackson Lab Project

UPDATE:  Gov.-elect Rick Scott's support is vital for the jackson Lab project to proceed, Barron Collier executive Blake Gable said Tuesday. Mr. Gable told Jeff Lytle of the Naples Daily News that he did not know where Mr. Scott stands on the matter at this time, but discussions will be held with the governor-elect in the new year. "If the governor is questionable and doesn't think it's a good idea, I'm not interested in moving forward," Mr. Gable said.

Music and Drama from Ave Maria Youth This Weekend

carol2aaThe Ave Maria Hometown Band and Orchestra will perform their winter concert Saturday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. in the Ave Maria University student union ballroom. Sunday, the Ave Children's Theater will present A Christmas Carol at 3 p.m., also in the ballroom, with a repeat performance at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9.
