Jon Scharfenberger passed away from injuries he suffered in an automobile accident in Georgia more than a week ago. Mr. Scharfenberger, who worked for Students for Life since graduating from Ave Maria University last May, had been in intensive care since the accident which also claimed the lives of another Students for Life staffer, Kortney Blythe Gordon, her unborn child and an occupant of another vehicle. "Jon was well known and loved by the AMU community and he will be sorely missed by all," said AMU campus ministry director Fr. Robert Garrity in announcing the young man's passing Tuesday morning. The Ave Maria Utility Company has rescinded a precautionary "boil water notice" it issued Saturday after a power failure overnight reduced pressure to the pumps. Tests on water samples showed the water was fine.

Ave Maria University founder Tom Monaghan, who built pizza delivery into worldwide franchise, is starting a new business in Naples that will deliver "gourmet hamburgers," reports the Naples Daily News. The prototype store is expected to open on US 41 north of 5th Ave. in a few months and Mr. Monaghan said all profits from the venture, which will be called Gyrene Hamburger, will go to Ave Maria University.
