Oil Well Rd. Project Nears Completion

The major new four-lane sectons are now fully open for traffic and the only remaining work is to resurface the two-lane section between Everglades Blvd. and Oil Well Grade.

Bear Update - Trapping Attempt Unsuccessful

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials tried unsuccessfully to trap a bear who had been wandering repeatedly through the downtown area of Ave Maria as well as several other neighborhoods. The bear has not been spotted for more than a week, and may have moved on.

Ave Maria University Hires New VP of Student Affairs

Kirk, a former associate vice president of Residence Life at Notre Dame University, has been hired as AMU's new VP for Student Affairs, University President Jim Towey announced Monday. Mr. Kirk replaces Student Affairs head Dan Dentino, who resigned earlier this summer for personal reasons.

Local County Commission Candidates Have 3 Forums Coming Up

Incumbent District 5 Commissioner Jim Coletta and his Republican primary challenger, Tim Nance, will appear at three candidate forums in the next two weeks -- on July 16, July 19 and July 25. Ave Maria University Economics Professor Joseph Burke will be a panelist at the July 16 forum, moderated by Jeff Lytle of the Naples Daily News, at the University of Florida Extension Office at 14700 Immokalee Rd. near the county fairgrounds.
