Proposed Immokalee Walmart Clears First Hurdle

The Collier County Planning Commission unanimously approved plans for a Walmart north of the center of Immokalee Tuesday night. The plans now require further approvals by the Collier County Commission and state authorities. Click for story from Naples Daily News

A bear on the ground and balloons in the air -- including, ironically, one depicting a bear -- made for an eventful morning Saturday in Ave Maria. Many of the balloons from the Balloons Over Paradise event in Immokalee landed in Ave Maria. On the ground, wildlife officials tranquilized and euthanized a bear that had been stalking the Bellera neighborhood.

Laura Mastandrea Named to All-Area HS Soccer Team

Ave Maria Resident Laura Mastandrea, a standout soccer player at Palmetto Ridge High School, has been named to the Naples Daily News all-area team. She has signed to play for AMU this fall.

Ave Maria Is a Potential Site for VA Nursing Home

UPDATE: Collier County Commissioners agreed Tuesday to move ahead with an application to have a veterans nursing home in Ave Maria. Ave Maria Development has offered to donate 20 acres of land for the project. The VA will pick one location out of several possibilities in Florida.
