Ave Maria University Economics Professor Joseph Burke is dealing with a practical aspect of economics these days -- the economics of university enrollment. Since June, he's been the interim head of admissions for AMU, and he's been remaking the department ever since.

Advice on Keeping Bears Away

Bear populations are increasing in the state, and sightings of bears have occurred in Ave Maria, throughout southwest Florida - even recently in the city of Naples. There's a public meeting Oct. 12 in Naples on the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission's plans for bear management, but the FWC says the primary way to keep bears away is for residents to take steps to remove things that attract them.

Turnaround for Donahue Academy Football in 2nd Year

The Donahue Academy Shamrocks had a complete reversal in their second sixman football season, losing only one game in the regular season after winning only one last year. The team closed out the regular season Friday with an impressive 28-6 win over Miami Christian. "I'm excited about the future of this program," said first-year head coach Rich Scanlon. Bishop Dewane Discusses Catholic Social Teaching at AMU

 Bishop Frank Dewane was a guest Wednesday at a class on Catholic Social Teaching taught by Economics Professor Joseph Burke. The bishop held a question-and-answer session with the students in the classroom, then the class adjourned to The Bean (above) where Bishop Dewane treated the students to beverages.
