A landowners meeting will elect three members to the Ave Maria Stewardship Community District board at a meeting Tuesday morning. Other business, including final approval of the budget for the last fiscal year, also will be considered at a regular board meeting preceeding the landowners meeting. Click here for more information

 The St. Laurent Candy and Nut Shop in the Ave Maria Town Center offers a selection of homemade chocolates, fudge, nuts and other specialty items plus old-time commercially-made candy not easily available today. "The re-election of President Obama means that our Federal lawsuit in defense of our University's religious freedom will proceed," Ave Maria University President Jim Towey said in a letter to AMU students and staff. Mr. Towey also announced formation of a special committee to look at the school's health insurance options.

 In 2007, the year the new Ave Maria Unviersity campus opened, coach Jeff Jagodzinski was head football coach at Boston College, taking the Eagles to the conference finals.  The Cub Scouts of Ave Maria are beginning their annual "Scouting for Food" drive Monday, dropping off bags at residents' homes early in the evening. The scouts will pick the bags of donations up Saturday morning, Nov. 3, between 10 a.m. and noon. Donations benefit the Guadalupe Center in Immokalee. John Hurley had 107 yards rushing as quarterback and Luke Scheck returned an interception for a touchdown as the Donahue Shamrocks concluded their regular 7-man football season with a 40-28 win over Golden Rule Academy in Ft. Pierce. The Shamrocks will play a home playoff game Friday, Nov. 2, at home at North Park in Ave Maria against against Lakeside Christian, which knocked them out of the playoffs last year.

Bishop Frank Dewane has granted a request from the Donahue Academy to be affiliated with the Diocese of Venice and to call itself an "independent Catholic school," diocesan Director of Education Kathleen Schwartz said Wednesday. Donahue Headmaster Dan Guernsey refused to comment for The Ave Herald, saying he wished to speak solely to another publication. The Ave Maria academy also has been named to the Cardinal Newman Society's list of the top 50 Catholic High Schools in the U.S.
