AMU Names Bishop Dewane and Cardinal Maida to Board

 Ave Maria University has named Bishop Frank Dewane of the Diocese of Venice to its Board of Trustees, and also elected Cardinal Adam Maida, former archbishop of Detroit, to the board. The appointment of Bishop Dewane appears to signal a closer relationship between the university and the diocese.

Publix Means More to Ave Maria Than Just Groceries

The most eagerly-awaited opening in Ave Maria since the dedication of the oratory will occur at 8 a.m. Thursday when Kelly Guarascio of Ave Maria Development cuts the ribbon officially opening the Publix supermarket. For Publix, it's the company's first Naples-area store east of Collier Blvd. and is part of an expansion that will open two new stores east of I-75 -- the one in Ave Maria and another on Collier Blvd. - in the space of two weeks.

Bishop Dewane Reportedly Named to AMU Board

Bishop Frank Dewane of the Diocese of Venice was appointed to the Ave Maria University Board of Trustees June 9, according to the Cardinal Newman Society. The society's website lauds the move, and says the university also reserved the seat for Bishop Dewane's successors. Cardinal Adam Maida, former archbishop of Detroit, also was reported to have been named to the board.
