Speed in the air and on the ground will be on display at Immokalee Airport's first "Wings and Wheels" event, put on Feb. 6 by the Eastern Collier Chamber of Commerce.
Many different aircraft will be on display and demonstrated from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be two MiG fighters, a MiG-21 and a MiG-17, fire suppression aircraft and the demonstration of a glider launched from a winch on the ground rather than being towed into the air. One of the MiG's afterburners will be engaged as part of the demonstration.
There also will be a rock climbing wall and exhibits of vintage cars as well as dragsters that will be competing at the racetrack at the airport Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Chances will be sold for raffles of a 50-inch HD TV and a 30-minute private plane ride.
Those attending will have the opportunity to talk to pilots of the planes as well as to the dragster drivers.
Admission to the show and demonstrations on Saturday is free. Admission to the drag racing is $10 but the racetrack is offering half-price admission to Ave Maria residents who show proof of residency.
