The popular Sunshine State Steak Cookoff will be held in the Ave Maria town center Saturday, Jan. 28, just following another event in town, Great American Saturday.

The steak cookoff, as in previous years, will have grill teams competing to serve the best steak in Florida. This is the largest such event east of the Mississippi. This year, it is being organized by the Ave Maria Quasi-Parish and proceeds will benefit local charities.

Tickets for the steak cookoff are $20 and include a 16-ounch ribeye steak, salad, potato and water. Steaks are served around 5 p.m. and there will be music during the afternoon. More information, including how to compete, is at www.sssscookoff.com.

Leading up to the cookoff, the Great American Saturday event sponsored by Ave Maria Development will have a fun run at 8 a.m., music from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., inflatables for kids and a car show.
