AMU Teams All Start on Winning Note Print E-mail

The fall season began on a winning note Friday for the three Ave Maria University teams that saw action.

The volleyball team needed only 3 sets to defeat the visiting College of the Bahamas with scores of  25-13, 25-5 and 25-15. Senior Middle Hitter/Blocker Adriana Vianna led AMU with 9 kills and 5 service aces, with fellow senior Saira Morgan contributing 5 kills, 2 aces, and a team high 5 digs. Christianne Ludwick, a freshman from Slingerhands, NY played well in her college debut with 3 kills, 4 aces, and 4 digs. Freshman Megan Arago had a team high 10 set assists.

The volleyball teams next game is on the road Friday, Aug. 28 against Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL. 

On the soccer field, the men and women both won games against College of the Bahamas, the men by a score of 3-2 and the women by an overwhelming margin of 7-1.

Scoring for the men were freshmen Miguel Vera and Jose Jimenez and sophomore Carlos Fuentes. The men's next soccer game is Aug. 28 at home against Savannah College of Art and Design in a conference matchup. Game time is 5pm at Ave Maria University.

Beth Greve and Kelsey Smith each scored twice in the women's 7-1 rout. Other scorers were Caitlin Millich, Dallan Diaz and Raquel Ledesma who also had one assist.

The women's soccer team will be traveling to St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida for a Sun Conference matchup Sept. 9.
