Free Throw Competition Draws Dozens of Contestants

The Knights of Columbus national free-throw competition attracts thousands of contestants every year. Saturday, the first local contestants participated in the event at the Donahue Academy gym, with eight of them moving on to the next step -- the district-level competition.
Event organizer Don Stuller said more than 25 contestants from Ave maria, Immokalee and Golden Gate Estates participated. The contest was open to all boys and girls ages 10-14.
Each contestant had to shoot 15 free throws and the first-place winners received a plaque as well as the chance to compete at the district level.
"This was our first free throw contest, the kids had a good time and I know we will have more contestants every year," Mr. Stuller said.
The winners were:
