The Ave Maria Choraliers, under the direction of Elaine Doerrfeld, performed again this Christmas season for residents of four Naples-area nursing homes and assisted-living centers.
A new part of the program this year was the addition of two "Choralettes" -- Valerie Gazzera and Elizabeth Tucker, students at the Donahue Academy who delighted the audiences with dancing motions as the Choraliers sang The 12 Days of Christmas. (Right, the group performing at the Heritage House Healthcare Nursing and Rehab Center in Naples.)
As they have done in previous years, the Choraliers handed out bells for
the residents to ring and invited them to join in singing Christmas carols and holiday songs.
"
Each program brought joy to the residents as well as the Choraliers," said Mrs. Doerrfeld (left), who led the singers and played the piano. "Seeing the smiles on their faces and hearing them sing along was an uplifting experience for all who participated."
In addition to Mrs. Doerrfeld and the Choralettes, the ensemble included Len Doerrfeld. Ann Brefka, Yvonne Diaz, Joanne Hallenbeck, Molly Heier, Sally Klucik, Pherzosa Madon, Cookie Olander and Mary Ellen Smolinski.
