Donahue Shamrocks Roll to Win in 1st Ever Playoff Game

don662af the Donahue Academy Shamrocks were nervous about their first ever sixman football playoff game, they didn't show it Friday night, dominating Northside Christian 31-6 before a large and enthusiastic crowd at North Park in Ave Maria.

The Shamrocks racked up 25 points in the first half while holding Northside scoreless on a crisp night that reminded many transplanted northerners in attendance of early fall football games back home.

"We had great team effort," said Coach Rich Scanlon after the game, which gave the Shamrocks the championship of the southern conference of the Florida Christian Association of Private and Parochial Schools (FCAPPS).

"Even though some guys stand out statistically, it is the unsung heroes, such as offensive lineman, receivers and fullbacks who block that make it possible for touchdown's to be scored," he said, adding that Nick Jaroma, Peter Scheck and Joe Chiemelowski were particularly effective blocking while Jake Schneider and Michael John Dauphinais "led the charge defensively with sound, fundamental play." The Shamrocks' next playoff game is at home at North Park Friday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. against FISH, a team fielded by a homeschooling association in the Tampa area. FISH finished 9-1 for the regular season, averaging 52 points a game.

Below, Gabe Allan holds up a championship shirt handed out after the game. Although a printer's error incorrectly has his number as 11 (he's actually 23) he said he didn't mind.
