The Donahue Academy in Ave Maria inducted its first members of the National Honor Society in a ceremony at the school Thursday night.
Seventeen students in grades 10-12 received the honor, representing 29 percent of the eligible students at the academy. For admission to the newly-formed honor society chapter, students had to have a grade point average of at least 3.5 and be recognized by five high school teachers for outstanding service, leadership and character.
At the ceremony, Denise Donahue, the school's assistant head for curriculum, spoke about the history of the sociey and its applicability for Catholic Schools and Tyler Graham, the chapter's adviser, read some antedotes created by the students as to what the four pillars of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character meant to them.
Following the induction, five of the newly-inducted seniors -- Christine Lenardson, Andrew Guernsey, Joseph Guernsey, Matthew Klein and Christopher Williams -- led everyone in praying the rosary in the school's chapel.
