Ave Maria Resident Wins Screenwriting Honor

Ave Maria resident Tony Schweikle has won a Silver Ace award from the Las Vegas Film Festival for a screenplay he submitted titled Tike Bar Pirates." Mr. Schweikle, an accomplished film producer, director and photographer, will receive the award at a ceremony in Las Vegas July 17.
Tiki Bar Pirates is the fifth screenplay that Mr. Schweikle has written, but the first to win an award. He describes the script as a "story about a gang of lovable losers in southwest Florida who plan a caper to make millions," which he said he wrote while his wife, the artist Phyllis Alden, was recovering from surgery. A spokesman for the Las Vegas Film Festival said that the festival receives hundreds of screenplays each year and honors just 15 with a Silver Ace award.
Mr. Schweikle also said he is awating word from a film festival in southern California which has notified him that a different scrrenplay he submitted is being considered for a major award.
