Ave Maria is adding undergraduate degrees in Business Administration and Psychology to its offerings beginning with the coming spring term, Vice President of Academic Affairs Jack Sites announced Tuesday.
Applications to grant the Bachelors of Arts degrees were submitted to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools shortly after AMU received accreditation in June, Dr. Sites said. Both degree programs have been offered by the AMU Latin America campus in Nicaragua, so the approval means they now will be available at both campuses.
AMU currently offers a certificate in business and Dr. Sites said that several of the students enrolled in that program will also fulfill the requirements for the degree in business administration and will be granted business degrees at the spring commencement. The certificate program will also continue to be available to students who choose to major in a different area, Dr. Sites said.
Dr. Sites said that one new faculty member, Dr. Catherine Pakaluk, was hired earlier this year to support both the current economics degree program as well as the planned degree in business administration. No further faculty additions have been announced at this time.
Ave Maria also is looking to offer programs leading to teacher certification and has reached an agreement with Edison State College to seek approval from the State of Florida for a joint program, Dr. Sites said. Both schools are awaiting word from the Florida Department of Education on how to proceed, he said.
Edison College currently offers education degrees in a number of disciplines.
