Ave Maria residents may notice a change in the clarity and taste of water occasionally during the next month as the Ave Maria Utility Company makes a temporary change in the disinfectant used in the water supply and flushes the hydrants and water mains.
If water appears cloudy or discolored, residents should run the water for several minutes until it becomes clear again, advises Jason Vogel of the utility company. If water is discolored, there also is a slight chance that laundry could become stained, so residents are advised to be careful of doing laundry if water is not clear.
The water will be safe to drink at all times, Mr. Vogel said.
The temporary change in disinfectants is recommended by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Collier County went through a similar process earlier this year (click for story).
Any changes to water clarity would be apparent between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. when the flushing occurs. The temporary change is between Oct. 31 and Dec. 2 although Mr. Vogel says that residents will not notice anything until flushing starts Nov. 2.
