New Adoration Chapel to Open July15

garrity2What might normally be a relatively quiet period for Fr. Robert Garrity has been a time of bustling activity as he prepares to open Ave Maria University's Eucharist Adoration chapel after the noon Mass July 15.

The opening of the chapel is the culimation of a dream that has long been part of the vision for the university, Fr. Garrity, director of campus ministry, said. The small chapel, which seats about 25 people, is attached to the Canizaro Library across from the Visitors Center. At right, Fr. Garrity stands before the place where the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed.

Right now, Fr. Garrity's priority is to ensure that enough people have signed up to enable Perpetual Adoration. At least several dozen more are needed, he says, and is asking anyone who has not yet signed up to consider doing so as soon as possible. The most pressing need is for the next six weeks, until university students return. People can either call the office of campus ministry at 239-280-2519, or use sign-up sheets at the entrance to the oratory.
