In Memoriam: Jerome Franz

Jerome (Jerry) E. Franz, 71, a resident of Naples, FL passed away on Monday, June 22 at Juniper Village, Wellspring Memory Care Center. He is the father of Heidi Hoyt and father in law of Eugene Hoyt, both of whom work at Ave Maria University and live in Emerson Park with their daughter, Sara, who attends Donahue Academy.
Mr. Franz was born May 8, 1938 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors degree in Art, and then spent four years at sea in the Navy.
Mr. Franz was a Pilot for TWA for most of his career, but also flew for four years with KLM, a Dutch airline. He and his family lived in many places throughout the USA, finally settling in Naples, Florida 15 years ago.
Mr. Franz was an avid snow skier and volunteered as a Ski Patrolman while living in Lake Tahoe during the 1980s. He sang with the Dapper Dans barbershop quartet of Disneyland and Disney World for many years. His other passions included jogging, scuba diving, swimming, and traveling.
Mr. Franz is survived by his wife Mary Judith, his daughter and son-in-law Kristin & Travis Kowalski and granddaughter Liliana of Rapid City, SD, and his daughter and son-in-law Heidi and Eugene Hoyt and granddaughter Sara of Ave Maria, FL.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 4:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Bonita, 9751 Bonita Beach Rd., Bonita Springs, FL. The Rev. Paul Fahnestock will officiate.
