Pediatrician Plans Office Hours in Ave Maria

Residents of Ave Maria will have a much easier time getting their kids to a pediatrician when Dr. Brian Thornburg of Naples begins holding office hours in the town center.

Dr. Thornburg, who has a busy practice in Naples, is planning to start seeing patients two mornings a week this summer. He'll be using temporary facilities in the town center until he starts sharing office space with the town's dentist, Dr. Caitlin McLaughlin-Raiger, whose office is expected to be finished early this fall.

Dr. Thornburg met about 30 parents Sunday at an information session organized by Dr. Raiger.

One resident, Theresa Martinez, has expericne with Dr. Thornburg before and is delighted that he will be coming to Ave Maria. "He's a great pediatrician," she said. "Dr. Thornburg shares our values and I really feel that this could be something great for Ave Maria."

Dr. Thornburg's practice in Naples, Thornburg Pediatrics, operates as a concierge service that requires membership from families but he says that he will use a different model at Ave Maria.

"Since I would not be able to provide the same type of service on a part-time basis," Dr. Thornburg said, "I intend to charge a flat rate of $75 for any type of visit." Residents would still need to seek other options, such as the EPN clinic, for emergencies or treatment when Dr. Thornburg is not present in Ave Maria.
