Palm Sunday Concert a Major Musical Event

The AMU choirs, accompanied by a 22-member professional orchestra, will perform in the Oratory at 3 p.m. on Palm Sunday. The program is the same as the performance earlier in the week in Naples at a benefit for Immokalee farm workers that was well received.

The performance includes works by many major composers and will feature nine student soloists singing in Haydn's St. Nicolas Mass, the concluding work of the program which Timothy McDonnell, the choir director and chair of AMU's music department, calls "among the most satisfying."

Dr. McDonnell says children are welcome at the concert and it's a great way to introduce them to classical music.

The full program:

1. Haydn's Symphony No. 26 "Lamentatione"
2. Geistliches Lied of Brahms
3. Ave Christe by Josquin Desprez
4. Cantata No. 23 by J. S. Bach
5. Lamb of God of Christiansen
6. Stabat Mater by Schubert
7. Da nobis pacem by Mendelssohn
8. St. Nicolas Mass by Haydn

The soloists in the Mass by Haydn are: Jamille Seaberg, Mary Remaniak, Ivan Feliciano, Andrew Steele, Carrie Nolan, Melissa Steele, David Kaiser, Lillian Bouchey, and Jeremiah Belocura.

There is no admission charge for the concert but a free-will offering will be accepted.
