There are no pipes, but most people probably won't know that when they hear the organ in the oratory. Instead of pipes, the organ manufactured by Massachusetts company Marshall-Ogletree uses what the manufacturer calls "virtual pipe organ" technology, sophisticated speakers and a process called "pipe sourcing" to fill even large spaces like the oratory.
The organ was delivered Thursday and will take about a week to install, including wiring and tuning, said Douglas Marshall who was in the choir loft supervising his company's installation. Assuming all goes well, the organ will be in full operation when the combined AMU choirs perform sacred music at the 10 a.m. Mass as part of the Festival of the Arts. That Mass will include the Missa Sancti Nicolai of Haydn.

There also will be an organ recital by AMU senior: Elisabeth Corbalis performing works of Vierne, Messaien, and others Saturday, April 18, at 1:30 p.m.
