Voters in Ave Maria overwhelmingly approved changing the method of choosing members of the board of the Ave Maria Stewardship Community District. The vote in a special referendum was 102-3 for "yes," town manager Todd Wodraska reported after voting closed Monday evening.
The referndum is one of a number of steps before there atually is an election for one or more members of the board. Next, the developers will prepare maps indicating the amount of "urban area" in Ave Maria, which will show thresholds that determine how many seats will be up for election. It is not expected there will be more than one out of the five seats on the board initially.
