The town of Ave Maria will figure prominently in the HITs Triathlon Jan. 9, which attrats world-class athletes.
The bike portion of the triathlon has come through Ave Maria every year since 2013, but the course has changed for 2016 and the race will finish in Ave Maria instea of Naples as it has in previous years. (right, the run course map)
The half and full triathlon will come through Ave Maria next month, and the run portion for both races will be in around Ave Maria before finishing behind the oratory on Annunciation Circle.
The full triathlon includes a 2.4-mile swim in the Gulf of Mexico, a 112-mile bike ride and a full marathon run of 26.2 miles.
Full maps of the bike and run portions are available in PDF format here (bike) and here (run).
The organizers are looking for volunteers who will work at the finish line, the transition station where athletes will transition from the bike to the run portion, and to be at aid stations. Anyone interested in volunteering can go to HITStriathlonseries.com/naples-fl-volunteer or email
