Donahue Falls in Playoff Opener

A healthier and more experienced Clearwater Academy defeated the Donahue Academy Shamrocks 56-8 Friday night, eliminating Donahue from the post-season football playoffs.

Clearwater was the top ranked team going into the playoffs, and is undefeated this season.

"The game was closer than the score indicated, especially in the first half," said head coach Rich Scanlon. "Injuries, which plagued Donahue all season again played a factor in this game."

Mark Cheffers caught a 46-yard pass from Elias Allan to score the only TD for the Shamrocks. Elias also converted the two point try with a run up the middle. Dominic Allan led the defense with 4.5 tackles, two for losses, in one half of play. A pulled groin prevented him from playing the second half. Mark Cheffers added 4 tackles.

"I am proud of the effort and perseverance this team displayed this season," Coach Scanlon said. "This game was another indication of the character of this team. With six starters missing and several leaving the game with injury, young guys with little playing experience gave their very best. With all but one player on this year's team returning, I am looking forward to next season already."
