4th Annual Steak Cook Off this Weekend

The now-familiar haze of charcoal smoke will be hanging over the town center of Ave Maria again Saturday as 20 grill teams compete for the honor of having their steak judged the best in the state of Florida.
The fourth annual Sunshine State Steak Cook Off Saturday, Jan. 25, has attracted grilling competitors from across Florida and as far away as Texas and Louisiana for what has become one of the highlights of the year in Ave Maria.
This year and additional type of competition has been added – the 5K "Ribeye Run" race that begins at 8 a.m. The race will be followed by the "parade of grills," where grill contestants – some of whom go all out for showmanship as well as grilling – circle the oratory in the town center.
During the afternoon, there is are games and attractions in a family fun festival, live music, and a chance to bid on a number of unique items in a silent auction.
Grills are lit at 3 p.m. and steaks are served from 5-6 p.m.
A steak dinner, including a 16-ounch ribeye, baked potato, salad and soft drink, is $18 and all proceeds benefit the Rhodora Donahue Academy's scholarship program for students from Immokalee. Left, last year's winning team.
Later in the evening, the Seminole Casino up the road will be putting on a fireworks display.
