Genuine Feminine Conference Focuses on Women & Education

gf-250"When we first started," says Eileen Gallagher, "we didn't have a long-term vision for our conferences, but through surveying people and basically asking them what they would be interested in, we've seen our themes maturing." The Ave Maria University senior who was among the first organizers of the annual Genuine Feminine conferences, says she believes the theme of this year's conference Saturday, Jan. 19, will be of particular interest to mothers because it will focus in part on the learning differences between girls and boys.

Some of the talks include "The Psychology of Today's Young Women: Understanding Multiple Role Balances;" "The Early Education of Girls;" "Women and Higher Education;" and "Women as Educators."

The day-long conference starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 8 p.m. Reservations for the "full package" which includes all talks, lunch and dinner is $20, but "a la carte" registrations are available. More information is available at www.genuinefeminine.com.

Genuine Feminine is a group of students at AMU who are interested in exploring the essence of femininity the practical implications of being a woman in modern society. At their bi-weekly meetings they discuss the works of such thinkers as Edith Stein. Seniors Eileen Gallagher, Sarah Pakaluk, and Mary Hardy, along with sophomore Angela Winkels predicted at a recent small gathering that Genuine Feminine will continue even after the last members of the original group graduate from AMU this spring.
