Runner Up: Dee Justus
Ladies 9 Hole Champion: Jo Makley
Runner Up: Barbara Henderson
Men 's 18 Hole Champion: Larry Stevens
Runner up: Craig Helfer
The championship rounds took place Tuesday through Friday, March 12-15.
It's Never Too Early...to start training the next generation of golf champions! Proud Grandparents Ann and Jim Longon enlisted the aid of Golf Pro Adam Anderson to introduce three year old Ellie to the world of golf. In the Pro Shop Ellie is all decked out for her putting lesson with Adam Anderson (Photo 1). And getting that ball into that hole isn't easy—(Photo 2)—while those darn sand traps are a real challenge! (Photo 3) But Ellie perseveres to try another day!
Fun Events...For Valentine's Day Del Webb members enjoyed a gala evening of fine dining and great entertainment. Red was the color of choice –and of the roses that were distributed to the ladies—for this happy group. From left, Del and Judy Prowant, Sharon and Mike Crews, Jay and Gladys Zebora, Dot Leibowitz and Bob Bacheller.
For the "Wearin' O' The Green" on Sunday, March 17, Saint Patrick's Day brought out over 80 revelers for corned beef and cabbage and a host of delicious homemade salads, soda bread, veggies and sumptuous desserts. And, of course, a keg of beer either green or pale! To start the evening off, a conga line of ladies wove in and out of the Oasis Club and Jim Burnum and friend showed off their "Irish for a Day" tee shirts. (below)
Enjoying good food and good company were David and Susan Peterson and Robert and Doris Doyle (above left). And these four lovely ladies (right) were all in the spirit of the day—from left, Sandra Budzbanowski, Holly Powers, Janet Myers and Jo Makley. Can't wait till next year!
For A Good Cause... Del Webb members Carole and Bill Dunstan and Max, their sweater-wrapped pet, attempted to stay warm at the Avow Hospice Annual Butterfly Release held March 2 at Cambier Park in Naples. Hundreds of members of the Naples community showed up on this very brisk morning to help celebrate Avow's 30th Anniversary and to participate in the community memorial service in remembrance of family, friends and loved ones who passed away over the years.
Making a Difference...Nannette Salasek, the daughter of Del Webb members Ame and Carlos Figueroa, has written a most inspiring story for FACES Magazine of Spina Bifida. Nannette and her husband , Ched, have six beautiful children and because their third child, Annie, was born with spina bifida and two of Annie's younger siblings with other physical challenges, Nannette has become passionate about providing support to families—letting them know that they are not alone in the journey of advocacy for their children with special needs. Nannette writes of Annie's latest successes in dealing with her disability: "Annie can do everything her friends do; she just does things in a different way!" Nannette works at an organization called Raising Special Kids, providing family support and training medical residents in the principles of family-centered care. In addition, Nannette also serves on the Family Advisory Council at Phoenix Children's Hospital.
