More students than ever were back in Ave Maria University classrooms Monday for the start of the academic year. Enrollment was up about 10 percent, to 1,100, President Jim Towey said, with the incoming freshman class "hovering at 400." (Above, students moving into dorms - photo by AMU)

In an unusual use of sacred art, Ave Maria University on its official Twitter feed Friday afternoon tweeted an image of the Angel Gabriel announcing to the Virgin Mary that classes will begin in 10 days.
